How PNG to SVG conversion works

A PNG or JPG is a grid of pixels. An SVG is a set of shapes described by math, so it stays sharp at any size, from a favicon to a billboard. Turning one into the other is called tracing (or vectorizing): the tool groups similar colors, finds the outline of each area and draws it as a smooth path.

This converter uses the open-source ImageTracer engine and runs in your browser. Choose a preset, check the side-by-side preview, and download the .svg file or copy the code.

How to convert PNG to SVG

  1. Add an image. PNG, JPG and WebP all work. A clean logo or icon with flat colors gives the best result.
  2. Pick a preset. Logo for flat graphics, Line art for black-and-white drawings and signatures, Photo or Detailed for complex images.
  3. Fine-tune. More detail keeps small shapes. Fewer colors gives cleaner, lighter files. A little blur removes noise from JPG artifacts.
  4. Download the SVG or copy the SVG code straight into your website or design app.

What converts well to SVG, and what doesn't

Logos and iconsExcellent. Flat colors and clear edges trace cleanly. Use 2 to 16 colors.
Signatures and line drawingsVery good with the Line art preset (2 colors).
Cartoons and illustrationsGood. Expect some simplification of soft shading.
PhotosPossible, but the result looks like a poster effect and the SVG file can be much bigger than the JPG.

Large images are traced at up to 1600 pixels on the long side to keep your browser responsive. The SVG is scaled back up, so it still matches the original size.

Convert JPG to SVG too

The same steps work for JPG files. JPG compression leaves faint blocky noise around edges, so set Blur to 1 or 2 before tracing. That stops the tool from turning every speck into its own tiny shape.

Where you'll use the SVG

SVG is the standard format for website logos and icons. Cutting machines like Cricut and Silhouette accept it, and so do laser cutters and most embroidery software. Designers open SVG files in Illustrator, Inkscape or Figma and scale them to any size without blur.

How do I convert a PNG to SVG for free?

Can I convert JPG to SVG?

Yes. JPG, PNG and WebP are all supported. For JPG, a blur of 1 or 2 helps remove compression noise before tracing.

Will the SVG look exactly like my PNG?

For logos and flat graphics it will be very close. Photos and gradients get simplified into areas of flat color, because that's how vector tracing works.

Is the SVG good for Cricut or laser cutting?

Yes. Use the Logo or Line art preset with few colors so the paths are clean and easy to cut.

Why is my SVG file so large?

Detailed images and photos produce thousands of paths. Lower the detail level and the number of colors for a smaller, cleaner file.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Tracing runs entirely in your browser on your device.
