When to convert JPG to PNG
Convert JPG to PNG when a site or app only accepts PNG, or when you're going to edit the image many times. PNG is lossless, so saving it again and again doesn't add new blur or blocky artifacts the way repeated JPG saves do.
Keep in mind what PNG can't do. Converting won't bring back detail the JPG already lost, and the PNG will be larger than the JPG, often several times larger for photos.
How to convert JPEG to PNG

Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG keeps the same solid background the photo had. Converting changes the file format, not the picture. To cut out a background you need a background removal tool or an image editor.
Why is my PNG bigger than the JPG?
If the PNG is too large, run it through Compress PNG, which can cut the size a lot by reducing colors.
